We provide fertilizer and weed control application services for lawns in the St. Cloud, Sartell, Sauk Rapids, and Waite Park area!
A proper balance of nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium, together with herbicides, grow your lawn thicker and greener.
Your lawn deserves to thrive all year long! At Sunset Mowing, that means taking care of the essentials before taking care of the aesthetics. Fertilizing and weed control packages aid your grass in retaining the nutrients it needs (nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium), while also deterring weeds from growing with herbicides. The end result is a lawn full of grass that grows thicker with a deep green color. If your property in the St. Cloud, Sartell, Sauk Rapids, or Waite Park area needs fertilizer or weed control application services, we are here to make it happen!
Our Four-Step Fertilization & Weed Control Treatment Schedule
We offer a fertilization package for optimal lawn growth and nutritional benefits, that is a four-step process ranging from spring to fall. Our fertilizer program is coupled with weed control to treat for crabgrass, broadleaf weeds, and dandelions.
Your yard will receive applications according to our standard treatment schedule.
- Spring - We apply a slow-release fertilizer specially formulated for midwest lawns, along with pre-emergent herbicide treatments.
- Early Summer - We treat your turf with fertilizer and post-emergent herbicide that will focus on existing broadleaf and other weeds.
- Late Summer - We focus on another round of fertilizer treatment. There is no weed control with this treatment as temperatures are generally too high.
- Fall - We apply another treatment of slow-release fertilizer with a higher nitrogen content to prepare for winter dormancy.
Fertilizer Application Services to Avoid Diseases & Weeds
While consistent mowing and maintenance for your turf will keep the grass growing in a healthy fashion through photosynthesis, lawns also need additional nutrients and can have other problems such as diseases and weeds. This is where our fertilizer application services come in. Your grass needs a balanced diet of nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P), and potassium (K) to grow healthy and give off the vibrant green color we all love.
A proper blend of NPK consists of formulating the fertilizer with the ratio of each element that is ideal for your specific grass species, as well as providing your fertilizer application services at the right times of the year. When done correctly, this will help prevent many of the diseases and weeds that plague your lawn.
Conditions That Warrant Weed Control Treatments
Weeds flourish because of poor lawn care and soil conditions. These pre-existing issues will lead to weed growth and start to overtake your lawn if prompt remedies are not taken. Weeds tend to grow in areas where:
- The soil is compacted
- The grass cannot grow or is thin
- The lawn has been over or under watered
- There are a lack of nutrients
- There is a high pH level
- There is heavy shade constantly present
All of these conditions provide the perfect breeding grounds for weeds to creep into your lawn and landscaping. To stop weeds from occurring before they start, we use a pre-emergent herbicide treatment. If you already have weeds in your lawn, then a post-emergent herbicide treatment will be required to kill them.
Common weeds typically found in the yards of our clients are Broadleaf weeds, such as Creeping Charlie, Wild Violet, Black Medic, Dandelion, and Crabgrass.
